How does the Host get Consecrated?

When I go to weekday Mass I can see this better than when I go on Sundays.

When its time for the people to receive Holy Communion, the priest turns and goes to the high altar and gets the Hosts out of the tabernacle. How do those Hosts get Consecrated? I thought they had to be on the altar when the Consecration was taking place.

The Hosts in the tabernacle were on the altar at a previous Mass. However I would like to point out that the Hosts do not need to actually, physically be on the altar whe the priest says the words of Consecration as long as he is aware of them and most likely is within sight of them and intends to consecrate them.

Hosts that have been consecrated remain consecrated. They are placed in the Tabernacle where the priest can use them for another Mass. Sometimes, the Mass will be held in a place where it is not possible to keep the hosts. In such cases, all the hosts, along with the consecrated wine will be consumeed immediately following the Mass.
