How far are we humans from reality?
God being the ultimate Reality, we are all works in progress.

I have been going through many “road bumps” the past few years. One of the things I knew I must do was to reduce stress and frustration anywhere I could. Media was easy pickings. I would listen to talk radio to and from work. Now… silence. I used to haunt CNN and Fox, now I come here, and a few other spots avoiding the news.

This has helped. Most of the news is OP ED anyway. I occasionally scan the headlines and that is it.

Less media and news = less stress
There is a great stress disc fhu.com, works for me.

Not sure what you are saying, but, I will take a stab at it.
I don’t find anything hidden, what is given is made very clear if the intellect doesn’t get in the way.
There is no drilling necessary. I don’t have referred theory. That is picking and choosing and not trusting.

From work done in philosophy of science, primarily, but spilled over into social and political philosophy as well. The idea is that any of the ways we try to make sense out of information requires that we make certain assumptions and that we bring a set of predispositions to the situation.

What I meant about hidden is that the messages we are given by the media, by politicians, by advertisers, authors, and by other people in our personal interactions are often covered over to seem like something they are not.

Don’t you have a preferred model through which you view the world? Seeing things as signs of divine compassion or as sacramental is, indeed, a perspective with a long, well-developed set of theories and predispositions behind it. 😃

No, I have no preferred model.
That is a form of idol worshiping.
I see things as they are and judge according to my needs., I don’t look for signs, it is shown to me through insights of the Holy Spirit and I am thankful for that.
It was a gift that came through suffering and hungering and thirsting for the truth.

For most of us, our perceptions of reality have been heavily influenced by the mass media. What the mass media decides to cram us with is all we really have to create our perceptions.

Note also that I’m not really talking about Divine reality, but worldly reality.
We live and breathe reality.

Even thoughts are very much real.

What you seem to be concerned about is erroneous thinking as a consequence of believing a falsehood designed to have that effect. That is, our thinking being altered by a presentation of things to some extent not real. For example, a presentation that exaggerates or minimizes a real problem or, though this less likely, the invention of a problem that doesn’t really exist (or couldn’t possibly exist). Notwithstanding, all experience is reality and insofar as it is real there will be some truth in it.

I would say that, while the wickedness of men can indeed be great at times, notwithstanding, we must remember they remain but mortal men: limited, finite and fallible; therefore, we should not ascribe unreasonable or unrealistic power to human beings. God always remains the Lord of history.
