How has the visit of the Pope helped you so far?

I’ve read several posts focusing abuses of the Mass celebrated today in Washington, DC. I haven seen much of discussion on his advices and issues he brought up.

Would you like to share about how his visit affects you spiritually?

Hi water. Well, except that I wasn’t crazy about the musical selections… aside from that, I really enjoyed viewing the Papal Mass from Nationals Stadium. It brought me back to a time of great blessing in my own life.

In 1987, in my hometown of Los Angeles, California… My family and I were privileged to be in attendance at the Papal Mass celebrated by Pope John Paul II, at the L.A. Coliseum. I have felt the “presence” of his blessing for all these many years.

The visit of Pope Benedict XVI has brought all of those happy memories back to me. And I’m so happy for those in attendance, earlier at the Nationals Stadium. They will never forget this day. God bless. 🙂
 
For me the Pope’s visit has been very comforting. In a sense, it truly does give me hope for the Church here in the US, especially with his talks emphasizing conversion back to Christ, and rejecting the overwhelming secularism that has plagued this country in such a great degree.

I hope that all Catholics take his words to heart. Mostly, I hope that all Christians in this country who believe in Christ understand and accept the teachings that has been steadfastly proclaimed by him and his predecessors without focusing on the misconceptions often times espoused by our separate brethren.
 
I didn’t know this pope that well. I have had an opportunity to get to know him better.

He is a gentleman, and a very eloquent speaker. His presence makes me feel unified to the whole Church and edifies me in my Faith.

I was glowing with happiness until I began to hear all the rude comments being posted on this site. We need to accentuate the positive, minimize the negative, as a wise, old deacon, WWII vet, once used to sing to us. I find it unbearable. :twocents:
 
It has made me even more grateful we have a Pope!

I was w/ my middle school students near Catholic U on Weds to cheer for the Holy Father as he rode by. There were some loud, obnoxious, anti Catholic protesters near by. They were very ‘in your face’. The signs said such things as ‘your priests lie to you’, ‘the Pope is not Christ’ (duh!!), and all sorts of things about Mary, the Eucharist, saints etc. They were talking and yelling to everyone, adults and kids alike.

It helped me be more grateful that we have a spiritual leader and are not just left adrift.

Yesterday, when I was watching the Pope at the Basillica in Washington, DC, I was thinking a lot about the time when I used to live in the city.

When seeing the Pope inside the Crypt Church of the Basillica, I missed the daily mass there. I was wondering back then that how on earth I went to daily mass there if at that time I wasn’t really serious about my faith. Somehow, I was just there. I remember there are so many pictures of Virgin Mary. If I were there today, I would be just in awe.

Today, it did indeed lift up my faith more seeing many faithful there attending the mass and thank God for the Pope and I have hope for the unity.

Back to Austin, TX, today at the mass, the priest shared with us back then when he was not a Catholic, he went to see Pope JP II when he came to the U.S…

I hope our Pope Benedict’s visit will touch many hearts and bring more people back to the Church as it happened to the priest, Fr. Bud, at the Cathedral of the Austin diocese.
 
I feel very hopeful and comforted by the Pope’s presence, and by what he has had to say to his flock here in the US. He said some very positive things about our country and church here, as well as what we need to strive for.

I am very proud to be a Catholic and a citizen here in the US.
 
What a beautiful grace to recieve, having Our Holy Father to see to Our Lords flock and the extraordinary words of love and strength he showers on us. I am one super proud Roman Catholic!!😃
 
I’ve been inspired and hopefilled from the moment our Holy Father touched down on U.S. soil. This has been a wonderful opportunity for me to get to know him. It’s been a renewal of my ferver for my faith. I’m also inspired to get some of his books. I have Spirit of the Liturgy, but never got around to reading it; I started it this morning.

One beautiful thing I have to share. I’ve got a coworker who is a good friend. He’s not Catholic, but is a devout Christian. He doesn’t belong to any particular denomination, but he has a deep prayer life and reads the Bible daily. Anyway, he got to see a clip from the beginning of the Mass in DC. He said that at first, he thought Pope Benedict just looked like an old man. When the Holy Father began to pray, he said he could really see the Holy Spirit working within him!! He said that’s it such a rare thing to be able to see God within another person like that. He quickly added that he’s not ready yet to say the Pope is the leader of Christianity here on earth, but it definitely made an impression on him.

I wonder how many other non-Catholics, or non-Christians, will be as effected by the Pope’s visit.
 
I think the Vatican does a pretty good job with America. . .the Pope makes visits often enough to let us know we are not forgotten but so often as to remind us that we are not the Center of the World and it doesn’t revolve around us.

Time Magazine wrote that everyone will parce over his every word and it’s true so I don’t.

Just him being here is a gesture enough. He doesn’t have to say everything perfectly or eloquently.
 
it’s helped me because dh & i talked a lot about our faith together & with our families.

seeing the Holy Father address the issues he did and his genuine warmth made me feel closer to him as the spiritual father of our Church as well.

i am one proud Catholic:thumbsup:

I was walking on air for 2 days. It was an amazing experience and I hadn’t heard any negative comments until I logged on the Forums tonight. Everyone at Nationals stadium seemed to feel as I did, just excited beyond words. I have never seen so many happy Catholics. It was easy to spot fellow Mass goers on the Metro as we were grinning from ear to ear. It was wonderful and It has been wonderful sharing my experience with friends and acquaintances who couldn’t be there. Even my protestant friends have been excited and impressed by the whole thing. I guess for me it has been a great chance to share my faith with a wider circle of people and to have that wider audience respond so positively. I AM HAPPY TO BE CATHOLIC and I get a chance to say so…

“Holy God We Praise Thy Name”. .
