How is "in good standing" checked?

I don’t know how parishes and dioceses actually determine good standing, but it could be a simple as regular participation in a parish, and giving what you can.

Plus sacramental records, meaning marriage records, documented impediments, whether a person’s been confirmed or not and so on. Plus whether they attend mass on at least a weekly basis, and the priest’s general impression of them, whether they’re well known to him or not, aka how comfortable he is in recommending them to for something.

What’s left is their testable catechetical knowledge which isn’t terribly hard to assess, regardless of all the controversy that the topic seems to generate. This is Baltimore catechism-like stuff.

The things that go into “in good standing” are all very basic.

Personal characteristics and devotional practices, charisms and level of understanding, level of commitment beyond basic good standing, level of guile, whether a person has an unrealized vocation or not, and all these sorts of things are certainly beyond a simple assessment of “in good standing.”
