How is it done properly?

When I get spiritual direction or whenever I speak with Father for any length of time he offers a blessing. It’s always been very formal and whatnot, sometimes in latin, sometimes in english. Anyway, it’s got me thinking… For ages whenever I got a blessing I would cross myself. I’m feeling a bit weird doing that now, I mean I feel like I’m usurping Father’s blessing by blessing myself in the middle of his prayer. Are you supposed to not cross yourself? Also, when I’m given a formal latin blessing, ought I to kneel? I’ve simply been bowing my head, that feels right for the moment/situation, but just out of curiosity, is it more kosher to kneel, like is it in the rubrics?
 
Nothing is more “kosher” as that’s a Jewish term.

If you receive the blessing you’re doing all you’re supposed to.
