You can’t judge intent that broadly- a couple using NFP could have a wide variety of intentions, as can a couple using contraceptives.

Good point, in part. We should not broadly judge a couple’s intent for avoiding pregnancy–that’s between the couple and God. HOWEVER, I believe it is safe to say a Catholic couple using NFP for avoiding pregnancy while knowledgable of the Church teachings almost always uses NFP because they* intend to follow the teachings of the Church*. A Catholic couple using contraception while knowledgable of the Church teachings on this matter usually intends to ignore the Church teachings.
