How long does it take to validate a marriage?

I have two Catholic friends who were married outside the Church five years ago.
They want to go to confession and have their marriage blessed in the Church as soon as possible so as not to continue living in sin. Can they have their marriage blessed without going to 6 months of pre-cana ?
 
Yes. The normal practice for those who are already civilly married is to simply collect the sacramental records, do a brief pre-marital investigation to ascertain all the facts, and then have the couple exchange vows. It would be quite abnormal (from what I have seen) for a couple already civilly married to undergo a 6 month pre-cana program. From first meeting to validation can take about a month, if all documents are promptly available.
