A priest told me today that he read that there are seven Archangels!

Also, is it possible for angels to move up or down in (or perhaps even outside) their hierarchy?

Thanks. :angel1:

wikipedia tells me that eastern orthodoxy names 7 archangels, but western christianity usually only names 3. Raphael, Gabriel, and Michael.

In Tobit 12:15;
15 I am Raphael, one of the seven angels who enter and serve before the Glory of the Lord."

But in the bible only 3 are named; Michael, Raphael and Gabriel.

It’s got to be pretty cool to be one of only seven in all creation/Heaven. Considering there must be millions or billions of angels, Seven is a pretty low number.

This verse just says Raphael is one of seven who stand before the Lord, not that there are only seven like him…Maybe those seven have that specific job, while the others do other tasks for the Lord.

Archangels are an entire choir of the heavenly host. They are innumerable and only three are named Scripturally: Sts. Gabriel, Michael, and Raphael. The Book of Enoch provides the names of Jeremiel and Uriel, while other Apocryphal books name others. Find out more here.

Catholic Answers recently had a radio show discussing the angels for 2 October. Unless I’m mistaken Mark Miravalle discusses this on there.
