How many quotes on scripture?

As I am sure ya’ll know, I am planning to discuss the faith with a fundamentalist. I am going to be preparing my stuff really before hand (so if I go through a “Brain Freeze” kind of moment, I can look down and read what I should say, and I am going to give him whatever we don’t cover to read).

I found the wealth of ECF on www.catholic.com and I thinking that I could use them to show, see that is what the Earcly Church beleives and this is how they veiwed this scripture. But, I was wondering how many should I use? I don’t want to use to many but, I don’t want to use too few. Thanks and God bless.
 
Check the scripture refferances in the Catechism and use them to make your point 👍

If you want some good stuff on the Faith-Works arguement, read James chapter 2.

I would have several dozen prepared and use maybe ten total. If he asks for more, you will have more (a lot more!) in your hip pocket and if he doesn’t, you won’t have bored him by citing quote after quote. Two or three quotes per topic is usually enough to make the point, but if there is an objection it is handy to have a dozen more for backup.

What denomination? If it is one I am familiar with, I can point you to some stuff to prepare with. (I am currently a member of the Church of Christ, but have many So. Baptist relatives (including a preacher-uncle) and went to a Presyterian high school. So, while on the Bap. and Pres. I don’t know a whole lot, I might be a little help.) I just thought it might help the dialogue if you knew they type of stuff the person would reply with (not saying you aren’t prepared, just offering help in case you aren’t 🙂 )

It’s important to know the denom because, for instance, faith-works stuff might be pertinent to a discussion with a Bap or Presby, but it wouldn’t be helpful with a Church of Christ’er. The Church of Christ (traditionally) doesn’t hold the faith-only doctrine. They also believe baptism is necessary, while Baptists and Presby don’t. The Church of Christ & Baptists are against infant baptism, while the Presby’s aren’t.

Anyway, I could go on, but you probably knew all that anyway. Just thought I would offer the little help I can give.
