How many readings from the Old Testament do they usually do at your parish at the Easter Vigil?

My parish is doing only four this year. I know only three are required, but I like listening to all seven. The Word of God is a fundamental part of the Easter Vigil.

**It seems like many parishes do not do all seven…I wonder if they worry about the length of the Vigil and try to keep it to a certain time?

My parish is doing five…great improvement over other parishes in the area that I have experienced.

I have attended one Easter Vigil a long time ago when visiting a relative at a Catholic University…where all seven readings were used. WOW! There is something loss when every reading is not heard.

I love my parish…however for this I would attend another parish if I knew their Vigil included all seven readings.**

What I’ve found in my parish is that the number of OT readings is inversly proportional to the age of the priest. The 71 year old said “What do you mean how many readings are we doing? We’re doing them all.” The 54 year old said “We don’t want it to be too long so we’ll be doing the minimum allowed.”

This year there is no Vigil in my parish, we are to join the Mission Parish where our adminstrator is Pastor. There it’s the minimum.
