Does anyone know how many times the Catechism quotes or cites scripture? I tried googling it to no avail. Any help would be appreciated and I’ll give a special smilie emoticon to the first person who posts the number!

I wish I knew that, but it’s a lot. So much so, that between the scripture reading during mass and the catechism I almost bust a gut when someone suggests Catholics don’t pay attention to the bible.

I don’t have time to count them but the appendix to the CCC has scripture citations, 2 columnts, single spaced from PP. 689 to 720, 40-50 per column.
from pp 720 to 752 it lists cites from Church documents. those full citations are contained in the companion volume to the CCC if you want to read the original sources in a convenient manner.

Besides the direct quotes from scripture, the citations to various Church documents, such as the various documents of Vatican I and II and earlier councils of the Church, are themselves full of quotes from scripture (or have a scriptural foundation). With very few exceptions, most Catholic teaching is based on scripture. The Catholic Church has at least as much of a right to claim to be a “biblical church” as any Protestant denomination.
