How many types of sin are there? Also what is the difference between the different types of sin?

There are two types of sin, those that separate us from God’s grace and threaten our salvation. These are known as mortal sins. Then, there are lesser sins that, while they do not directly separate us from God, dull our conscience and make us more susceptible to committing mortal sins. These are called venial sins.
