I try and remember to pray for my ex,the father of our children.I found it quite hard for a while ,while I still felt some hurt and anger. That marriage was annulled,I understand he will always be a part of our lives and his soul matters very much.
Now I include him in daily prayer usually, how much are we obliged to pray for an ex?
Also, I never know how to act on the wedding anniversary …it feels strange that day.Any reccomended prayers for that day?

Hello My Dear,

I think that it’s up to you, really. ❤️

I can relate to the pain that some broken family relationships have caused, and I think of those relationships especially on birthdays and other special occasions, and I’ll just say some heart-felt prayers for those family members, asking God to bless them, and I’ll pray for them, thinking of them in my heart.

You are to forgive and love even your enemies (and to pray for them), for whatever happened it constitutes an exercise of precisely that: the penultimate petition of the prayer of Our Lord. And sometimes it is hard, for a time. Inevitably, if you continue praying your heart will become closer to the heart of Jesus, that is the point! That your heart becomes more like the heart of Our Lord. Contemplate very closely on the words when you pray.

Yes, by all means continue praying for your ex - whom you should not cease to love. [I would recommend “Love and Responsibility” by Karol Wojtyla, and “Deus Caritas Est” by Benedict XVI.] Be reminded that the exercise of prayer holds the answers for even an illiterate finds the answers therein.

You will find, that in love (in continued love) lies peace. The 12 fruits of the Holy Spirit…Love, Peace, Joy form an ordered sequence, in loving you find peace that leads to Joy.

God bless you.

You’re not “obliged”. Just do it to the extent you feel comfortable doing it.

As long as you have basically forgiven him and are not carrying around anger, that’s the important part. A simple “God, please bless and protect so-and-so” from time to time seems sufficient to me, given that he is the children’s father. If you wish to pray for him more than that, it is your choice to do so - not a requirement.
