I work with the literature and the books in the congregation, if people want any book and it’s available I give it to them. Free
The JW lady that use to give me JW books before she moved away told me a different story. She told me that she had to pay for the books that she was giving me. Was she not telling the truth? Was this a practice dropped more recently? Is it different from congregation to congregation and it just happens that you’re a nice person and give your congregation the advantage of providing the books free of charge to them?
As a baptised witness you basically made the vow to live for God and not for yourself so it’s important that you follow Jesus example of preaching about God’s Kingdom.
But we go preaching out of love not because we have to - out of love for God an his commands…….
It sounds like you are compelled to evangelize because of your vow to live for God. What would happen if you decided not to and didn’t evangelize on any given week? What would happen if you decided to and stopped evangelizing all together? What would be the reaction of your Elders? How would the congregation view you? Would you be punished somehow? If so by whom and how?

No it doesn’t. This is not one of our forms of preaching to people
Ok, so if your time in this chat room is not part of your evangelizing/preaching time, and by extension doesn’t fulfill your vow, what is your objective participating in this chat room? What is your goal? The people here are looking for answers to help them build and strengthen their Catholic faith. Are you helping them with that?

The operation of God’s spirit changes the entire outlook of such a person, so that his thoughts and prayers are centered upon serving God with the heavenly hope in view. Being with Christ in heaven is more important to him than any earthly ties. I am not one of them because I have a string desire t live on earth forever
It’s sounding to me like there are two classes of believers. There is the First Class Believer – the believers that will go to Heaven; and there is the Coach Class Believers – the believers that will remain on Earth. Am I reading this correctly, the class that we belong to is based on our desire? Because, believe me, I have no desire to remain on Earth. Been there done that! I have a VERY strong desire to go to Heaven. Does that mean that I am one of the 144,000?
Many of them came out of religion and left because they did not agree with the churches teachings and because the church could never answer there questions from the bible, even so there are people who are going to church that are confused and want answer that doesn’t leave.

So yes any Christian should be able to show a professor that the Bible is not a fairytale
You are painting them all with a broad brush and are quickly making some negative assumptions about them. You haven’t considered their true background or impartiality but immediately imply that they are bias. Just because they don’t believe that the Bible is the Word of God and their (research) findings disagree with your beliefs does not mean that they are bias. That is interesting that you do that though. I also find it interesting that when professor BeDuhn endorsed the NW version of the Bible, you held up his credentials and commented something like, “who am I to argue with professors.” It’s very interesting. And I find it more interesting that if a Professor has a different point of view than yours, it’s a totally different ball game. Then this individual’s professorship losses all the gravitas that you held up for the professorship of BeDuhn and you would argue that professor correct?
Jesus compared death to sleep
I’m sorry. I messed this question up. I meant to ask ‘what is the point of God bringing someone back after they die if they are damned only to take their life away again in short time’. But nevertheless, how is death like sleep? Sleep is an ‘altered state of consciousness deprived of sensory information’. But you and other JWs have made me understand that the JW belief is that when one dies, death is absolute. Nothing of us remains and we cease to exist. Nothing is left, our body dies, our soul dies, and our consciousness dies. If death is like sleep that makes it sound like part of us remains and doesn’t die since sleep is just an ‘altered state’ whereas death is we are gone without a trace. So then what part of us remains for it to be as if we are sleeping?

I can’t see why you saying “JW confrontation” when I merely came to comment on this thread and was confronted by Sirach2 and Johannes. Did you not see all the questions they kept asking me about my beliefs and yet you still say JW confrontation. Lol. I have not questioned any of your Catholic beliefs, put yourself in my shoes for a change and think about how you would feel 👍
I guess you are being confronted by Sirach2 and Johannes. But…

…I just feel like I do when the “Witness” at my door takes almost an hour of my time.

Based on his analysis of nine major English translations, Jason David BeDuhn, associate professor of religious studies, wrote: “The NW [New World Translation] emerges as the most accurate of the translations compared.” Although the general public and many Bible scholars assume that the differences in the New World Translation are the result of religious bias on the part of its translators, BeDuhn stated: “Most of the differences are due to the greater accuracy of the NW as a literal, conservative translation of the original expressions of the New Testament writers.”—Truth in Translation, pages 163, 165.
I like what he says and I quote

There are also many reviews about the book if you want to you can check it out I’ll provide the link - amazon.com/gp/aw/review/0761825568/R3E9J7CCXLY4W9/ref=cm_cr_dp_aw_rvw_2?ie=UTF8&cursor=2
One reviewer says and I quote

I don’t know much about that but I went through the book Jason BeDuhn wrote… Maybe you guys can do the same. I think that is why we can’t get to common ground on certain beliefs because of the translations.
I found a couple of interesting reviews
To quote from one
I am making it sound as if the author has definitively settled these issues, which are surely still going to be debated till Doomsday. But I don’t mind leaving such an impression, for BeDuhn’s arguments seem refreshingly cogent, clear, and comprehensive. He puts out to pasture various bogus grammatical rules that almost seem, like the grammar of Koranic Arabic, to have been fashioned to protect the text from heresy. He is forthright in expressing the obvious but ecumenically correct explanation: most Protestant translators work under the gun, pressured to make the alleged source of their doctrines reflect those (post-biblical) doctrines after the fact. The two most neutral, Greek-faithful translations turn out to be the Roman Catholic New American Bible and the Jehovah’s Witnesses New World Translation, a reworking of the American Standard Bible. BeDuhn speculates that Catholics can be freer with the details of the text because they don’t have to pretend to find their theology in it in full-blown form. He suspects that the Witnesses had similar freedom because they had cast off the baggage of orthodoxy and approached the text with fresh eyes. That certainly seems to be true of Charles Taze Russell, their founder. On the other hand, BeDuhn turns right around and shows the arbitrariness of the New World Translation’s importation of the name Jehovah into the New Testament, and the theological bias implied in their refusing to do so in the case of Old Testament quotes where using “Jehovah” in a passage applied to Jesus would imply a higher Christology than they accept. BeDuhn confesses that he, too, has a bias, and that is to try to let the ancient texts speak for themselves, stripping away biased theological mistranslations. Bravo! May we all be so “biased”!

Paul shows that the only hope of their being delivered from this condition of having fallen asleep was the resurrection, and that, if there is no resurrection, then “they also which are fallen asleep in Christ are perished.” (1 Corinthians 15:18) Paul had the hope of resurrection at Acts 24:15 he says - “I have the same hope in God as they themselves have that there will be a resurrection of the righteous and the unrighteous.”
The resurrection is when one wakes up from that sleep (death). Same like when Jesus resurrected Lazarus from as he referred to it his sleep and brought him back to life
The Haydock Commentary on 1 Cor. 15, verses 13-23 is that the resurrection is both body and soul (dead in sins).
7. As death came by the first man, (Adam) so the second man (Christ) came to repair the death of men, both as to body and soul; and without Christ’s resurrection, both the souls of men have remained dead in their original sins, and their bodies shall not rise again. (Witham)

Guys I really love having conversations like these, it somehow strengthens my faith, because it gives me a chance to go into the Bible and to see if what is being said is so or not, that’s one of the main reasons I’m here the questions asked prepares me on how to handle and deal with it in future when speaking to someone else again. And I really don’t mind answering all your questions, because I understand that people that don’t understand someone else’s beliefs has alot of questions that they don’t understand even though some of them have already made an assumption about the other religion because of what they heard or read on the Internet. That’s another reason why I’m here is to understand Catholics better, how they view things so when in future I do speak to one I will know their views and how to reason with them. So with all due respect if you can make a new thread with questions you would like to ask I’d be happy to participate but if we on this thread I think it would be best to speak or discuss the initial topic posted. Can also inbox me if you would like. I’m afraid to some I’ve come across as being confrontational so to them I sincerely apologize. To the ones asking the questions I don’t consider it to be confrontational because I know I’m a curious person and I also have alot of questions I would like to ask you too and I would not want you to feel like I’m confronting you. So with all kindness if you would like to ask anything with regards to this topic on the thread then I think most will appreciate that and will benefit everyone who has a interest in knowing the answer to the question posted. I hope this isn’t going to be taken in the wrong way and that you will understand
