At my local Catholic youth group we sometimes make ‘commitments’ during prayer time - promise to do something, out loud in front of the community and in front of God, and then the community prays for us to help us with that commitment. Is it very important that we keep these commitments? I have kept many and broken some in the past… is it a sin, for the ones I have broken? Or just something that displeases God? Or what?
My most recent commitment was to finish reading the CCC by the end of the year. That was a while ago, now it’s Dec 10 and I’ve still only read 400 paragraphs (out of about 2800). I’ll try to finish reading it before the end of the year but is it a big deal if I don’t manage to finish it?
