How much to give a priest for a blessing of House

I was grateful for the replies. First, the honorarium is honoring the spiritual gift and counsel which the priest or pastor possesses and shares during the blessing occasion. This gift is imparted by God, affirmed by the church and one of more institutions of Higher education. The honorarium is an offering but, an expression of thanks also. For non-tithers and nominal church goers, giving financially to the church is often challenging. But, for one purchasing a home a gift of $50 is not a large expression given all that it represents.

King James Bible-“And Jesus answering said unto them, Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s. And they marvelled at him.”

King James Version -“Let the elders (Ordained:Priest, Pastors) that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine.”

I’ve had two house blessings (after purchases) and I’ve offered both priests the ballpark of $100 Canadian (one was $90 because of change issues). One priest gratefully accepted it. The other priest graciously declined and said it was not necessary, but I quickly turned it around and said, I therefore offer it as a donation. He said, yes, to the parish, and he accepted it.

For someone on my financial state, which is not filthy rich but also not wallowing in poverty, by God’s grace, $100 for me is a fair amount.

Ultimately, it’s whatever you are comfortable with. I’m sure most priests will gladly bless your house for free, and will be grateful for just a generous bite of the dinner table.
 
Our priest refuses to take anything. However! Offer him a bottle of wine for it, or a cup of tea even, and he’ll gratefully accept it under the condition that you either share the wine with him, or have a cuppa and a conversation.

He’s very sociable, though he tells me he shares the wine so as to practise moderation.
 
Our priest refuses it too but this year Mom insisted he take a small stipend which he accepted.
