How often do you check your conscience to see if you committed a mortal sin?

That is one problem with the soap industry that I have. All we do is focus on the dirt. It’s enough to drive someone crazy. This past summer I was in the shower multiple times a week washing away dirt and filth. Is this really what hygiene wants from us? To be living in a state where we feel dirty with grease and dirt after working for a day digging ditches? Because that’s how I felt. It is a terrible feeling and sometimes I believe it is the reason people stop showering.

That makes no sense, right?

I am sorry if someone made you feel that because you committed a sin it was automatically mortal. When someone is struggling with a habitual sin, it is really important to establish a single confessor who can help you work on growing past that sin.

God is not some mischievous entity sitting on the throne just waiting to GOTCHA some poor, good hearted soul into hell. God is the loving father, forgiving us no matter how many times we fall.
 
No, by no means does the Catholic Church focus only on the “bad.” But until faith is mature there’s often a struggle against major sins and the Church, like a good mother, puts warning signs all over the place. On the other side (and although we struggle with sin always as humans) love begins to take over in a strong way and fear is released. Love is an extremely powerful motivator to avoid sin.

Jesus did not come to abolish the Law but to fulfill it; Paul talks about having to go through the Law in order to find the higher law of freedom. .
