Hi everyone!

I was wondering how often you go to confession? It’s been a couple a months for me, and I feel really bad about it. It’s really hard for me to get there because of my work schedule.
Should I not be receiving the Eurcharist at mass?

Thanks for you help!

I go every few months - unless I’ve done something I know was a serious sin - then I go right away. Only mortal sins should prevent you from receiving the Eucharist

From CCC
1415 Anyone who desires to receive Christ in Eucharistic communion must be in the state of grace. Anyone aware of having sinned mortally must not receive communion without having received absolution in the sacrament of penance.

1416 Communion with the Body and Blood of Christ increases the communicant’s union with the Lord, forgives his venial sins, and preserves him from grave sins. Since receiving this sacrament strengthens the bonds of charity between the communicant and Christ, it also reinforces the unity of the Church as the Mystical Body of Christ.

Also, you are only “required” to go once a year, but in general it is better to go more often. I hope that helps**

2042 The first precept (“You shall attend Mass on Sundays and holy days of obligation and rest from servile labor”) requires the faithful to sanctify the day commemorating the Resurrection of the Lord as well as the principal liturgical feasts honoring the Mysteries of the Lord, the Blessed Virgin Mary, and the saints; in the first place, by participating in the Eucharistic celebration, in which the Christian community is gathered, and by resting from those works and activities which could impede such a sanctification of these days.

The second precept (“You shall confess your sins at least once a year”) ensures preparation for the Eucharist by the reception of the sacrament of reconciliation, which continues Baptism’s work of conversion and forgiveness.

The third precept (“You shall receive the sacrament of the Eucharist at least during the Easter season”) guarantees as a minimum the reception of the Lord’s Body and Blood in connection with the Paschal feasts, the origin and center of the Christian liturgy.

I go every week. If you’ve commited a mortal sin, then you shouldn’t be receiving the Eucharist. Also, you could always call your parish to set up an appointment for confession.

I go every 6 weeks - 2 months. I go to Mass as often as I can (not quite every day) and I receive the Eucharist.

About 2 years ago, one of my offspring asked me why we only went to confession once a year. I had no answer for him, so I resolved that we would go every 3 months or so. I figured quarterly would keep them in practice and was still way more often than most people. We have been pretty faithful to that, and I try to slip in without them in between times. After about 6 weeks, there seems to be something pulling me back there. My thought was that if I started going more often, I would run out of things to confess, but sadly that has not happened.

It is, however, difficult to hit that 30 minute window on Saturday afternoons or to get to 6:30 am Mass even earlier to confess before daily Mass. Not that I haven’t done it, but difficult with work and life…

I generally go once a week…but also as necessary.

It is important to know yourself and to know when you need to go to confession, especially if you receive Eucharist frequently. A good examen of conscience at the end of the day really helps one to know whether or not they need to receive the sacrament before they receive the sacrament. (Pun intended, lol).

I’m a roughly weekly penitent as well - fortunate that here in the big city we have several churches that have daily or near-daily confession times. And sadly no, I never do run out of things to confess, though the graces have significantly helped in one or two areas of my life.

I try to go every two weeks, but sometimes my schedule prevents that. So, I don’t beat myself up if it is three or four weeks between. Basically, I’ve discovered that shooting for every two weeks keeps me from going longer than a month.

Twice a year (Easter and Advent) and then any times I am worried I have commited a serious (mortal) sin.

I try to go through an informal (but prayerful) examination of conscience daily.
