First, I must begin by saying that a couple years ago, the subject of the rosary somehow came up in a class at school (a public school). The teacher asked if anyone could explain it. I did not raise my hand b/c I could not have given a decent explanation at that time. And I am a cradle Catholic. Shame on me!
This spring I was reading True Devotion to Mary by St. Louis De Montfort and he encourages praying, in addition to the Little Crown of the Blessed Virgin, the rosary every day. I quote him from the book: “At the moment of your death you will bless the day and the hour in which you followed my advice.” Hmmm…ever since I read that, it’s been a daily rosary! Many, many times I know I’ve stopped everything to watch a favorite TV show – and look how much more important the rosary is!!
I realize now how wonderful a model Mary is for me and how the rosary is a great start in trying to imitate her. I also realize how much sin needs atonement on a daily basis and I think this can help. As others have suggested, I usually have a specific intention when I pray the rosary and I know it has the potential to do great good for others!
