Hi, Yankee.
Don’t beat yourself up. It happens to most if not all people. For me, personally, I am sometimes sluggish with personal Bible Study simply because I was brought up in a Bible-thumping home; accordingly, I think to myself that I needn’t read so much of it, since I know everything. This, of course, is faulty reasoning. The Bible is too vast, too varied, for anyone to know everything within it. Most importantly, there are timeless principles from which we may always benefit, even within texts we have repeatedly heard.
Hence, I am aware of the importance of study, and clearly so are you. It is necessary to have a thirst for God and His Word. However, please don’t think God is punishing you because you have not cracked your Bible in a while. I highly doubt He works that way…Lucky for us, otherwise grace would be impossible to attain! :crying:
Consider what the Bible says: “For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.” (Hebrews 4:15)
Quite simply, this means Jesus understands us—what we think, what we feel, what we go through. He does not offer an excuse for us to live without accountability; but He does remind us that we have grace, through Him, and we are not alone. He is our Mediator, our utmost Help, and our understanding Friend. Accordingly, rather than condemn yourself, Yankee, pray to Jesus. Like David of old who sat in the Tabernacle before the Lord, take some time to tell Him all that is on your heart.
Keep your Bible handy when you do so, and turn to Psalms 91. Begin there and be encouraged!
