I think confession is such a beautiful sacrament and a beautiful way to experience the Lords love and mercy.
I say go as often as possible or at least once a month. We don’t want to just do the bare minimum of once a year. We commit venial sins daily and sins(mortal and venial) really hurt our Lord ,it’s not just “oh, I broke this rule” it’s I really just did something that hurt the Lord and my relationship with Him…“the gift of fear of the Lord” kinda means in laymens terms- the fear of doing something that would break Our Lords Heart… and that’s what our sin does…every sin really hurts Our Lord. When we hurt God we should go to Him to say(not necessarily verbatim) “I’m really sorry for doing this.{blank}…and hurting you”, “please forgive me” . if we do this with our friends and family how much more should we do this with the Lord in the sacrament that He has graciously provided.
it’s also a great way to grow in humility and in our relationship with the Lord. Friends and sons/daughters talk and ask for forgiveness. The saints have shown us the way to grow in holiness is through frequent confession(amongst other things). We can only expect our interior life to grow if we get our soul “cleaned” regularly. How often do we clean our house? Regularly I suspect. So how much more should we “clean” the cherished temple of the Holy Spirit(us)
hope this makes sense
