Hello:

Needless to say I have often criticized the US Bishops.

I remember listening to a radio broadcast of one of Father Corapi’s talks in which he told the story of a Bishop that in giving a talk told people that there was “no hell”. After the talk a elderly woman told the Bishop he would believe in Hell when he got there.

Other stories portray sharp differences between many of the Bishops. SOoooo, how do I show respect for a Bishop who is “a successor to the Apostles” and yet I do not trust because they do not speak or act as I think a Bishop ought too ?

I was also wondering what other perspectives people have regarding Bishops, Arch Bishops and Cardinals ?

Former Cardinal Richelieu in France, made famous in the tales of
the 3 Musketeers, also did not seem to fit the right profile for a
“Prince of the Church.”

Thank you.

A priest said that about a bishop?!

The laity, deacons, and priests are to honor the bishop, as commanded by the Lord: “Honor thy father and thy mother”.

“Let all follow the bishop, as Jesus Christ follows his Father”
  • St. Ignatius (107 AD)

what was so bad that the priest said? I see nothing harmful in that story. Besides, we are allowed to criticize even bishops and as far as following bishops is concerned, certainly you wouldn’t follow a bishop in believing there is no hell.
