I am in an extended e-mail conversation with a Cathoilc friend that thinks that most priests think that homosexuality in not immoral. If this is the case it is very discouraging. I don’t believe it and I hope I am right. Any thoughts out there?

I doubt very seriously whether your friend knows what he is talking about. I have yet to meet a priest that feels that way. I’m not saying that there are a few out there, but to say “most” is simply being dishonest.

Depends on the meaning of the terms. Homosexuality, in the sense of a sexual attraction to the same sex, is not immoral, any more than any other sexual attraction is immoral. And due to original sin, human beings have a great variety of disordered sexual attractions which, if acted upon, are sinful, but if not acted upon, are merely temptations.

Well i guess the priests that said that homosexuality was not inmoral should think twice and read some of the bible passages that were related to homsexuality. If you are not aware, back in the days of Moses, people were killed if they ever commited an act of homosexuality. There was no time to regret those acts and even God himself said, “that they needed to be killed without no excuse”.

In these particular citys in the bible, a bunch of men that were practicing homosexuality were burned down into ashes by God himself. There was only one man that survived and that was a man that wasn’t practicing homosexuality and had a wife and daughters. He was saved by the angels of God who told him to get out of there because God’s fury had risen against those men that were doing homosexuality.

Im sorry that I don’t have the Bible with me to acutally prove and show some scriptures, but when I do, i’ll show them to you. In the mean time, you can go and prove it yourself.

That could be true or false depending on the actual question.

Is it immoral to be a homosexual in the sense that you are sexually attracted to men? No. It’s a serious temptation that should be shunned to the same extent that homicidal thoughts are shunned, but merely being tempted to homosexual acts is not immoral. That’s just their cross to bear, just like we all have our sins we are particularly drawn to.

Is it immoral to have sex with men? Yes, extremely immoral.

Do you have enough certitude that your friend qualifies as someone who knows what most priests do or don’t think? This person must travel the globe to know so many priests.

Well, I think most peoples’ favorite color is olive! Oh wait - I don’t know everyone in the world nor enough people to make an accurate guess.

Why do you want us to comment on your friends opinion that thinks most priests don’t think homosexuality is immoral? What of it? Do you mean just the attraction not acted on? Do you mean homosexuality lived out as a lifestyle? Or should I say your friend - you should email him or her and get some clarification as to what they mean.
