For a woman, what’s the minimum length above the knees would a skirt, dress or shorts be considered “too short” and immodest? Above the knees? 6 inches above?
If your underwear shows when you bend over, it is too short. 😉

Hubby and I have this figured out. I put on an outfit in a changing room, and ask him to come in. I say “honey what do you think.” and If he says…“uh…yeah, I like that!” I pick something longer 😉

We see some key thoughts in the Catechism, which people can use to make their own wise choices, using our intuition, without having to have a list prohibitions.

2521 Purity requires modesty,…

2522 Modesty … keeps silence or reserve where there is evident risk of unhealthy curiosity. It is discreet.

2523 … It protests, for example, against the voyeuristic explorations of the human body in certain advertisements … Modesty inspires a way of life which makes it possible to resist the allurements of fashion and the pressures of prevailing ideologies.

2524 The forms taken by modesty vary from one culture to another. Everywhere, however, modesty exists as an intuition of the spiritual dignity proper to man…

2525 … Purity of heart brings freedom from widespread eroticism and avoids entertainment inclined to voyeurism and illusion.

I usually feel uncomfortable in anything above the tops of my knees. Something that touches the floor when I’m kneeling would be the perfect length. Any shorter than that and I find myself tugging the skirt to make sure it’s long enough all the time.

Agree with Alexander and others who’ve suggested at least knee length. Honestly, though, I find that’s such an ugly length for me (I have yucky knees) that I usually go much longer. I actually prefer just below the calf. It’s an elegant length and you’re not messing around trying to maintain modesty. Problem is, it’s not an easy length to find.

Showing off parts of the body is not really a Catholic ideal when it comes to modesty.

For example, it doesn’t matter if you had a flabby or a super slim belly, it would still be immodest to walk around in shirts that revealed your midrif, no?

You should never be lax about modesty. “What you are comfortable” with could mean anything!
Wow…

I think the only point that has been made is that it’s entirely subjective.

As for the Ukrainian Army women… I feel sorry for them having to march in those shoes, it’s obviously summer, and some of those stilettos are deadly weapons! I wonder if they train them in how to kill enemies with those shoes… those things are scary and I wouldn’t be able to walk for a week if I marched a parade in those things! 😉

:rotfl: I do this with tops. If dh says he likes my top I go put a tank top on under it or change shirts (it is sometimes difficult for me to wear anything but a t-shirt and not show cleavage, so another’s perspective is helpful). 😛 I don’t have to do it with skirts because I dislike my legs enough to always have them covered up.

just keep your knees covered - and you don’t have to worry anymore about modesty in length !
