I went to church and I saw my friend’s parents. They told me that they weren’t speaking to her anymore. They said it was because she was pregnant and I think because of her history of lying to them. They said how they lied to God and them. He said she was leading a double life. It seems like she might be hurt and that’s why she is acting out like this. It’s like a domino effect. Her dad even told me he found out she is in a gang. How do I help her? Should I tell her what her parents told me? Should I just sit in the background and do nothing? Could strict parenting cause her to rebel like this (strict parenting in the sense that she couldn’t use her cell phone or have a facebook at age 20)?

Sounds like a troubled family. I would provide only what help she asked for. She is old enough to make her own choices, and that means she is old enough to put up with her parent’s responses to her. Other than that I would stay out of it.

First of all, your friend’s parents should not be telling your these things at all. They are pulling you in to this conflict that they are having with her. I am sure that your friend already knows that her parents have cut her out. The better thing would have been to tell them that they need to work this out with their daughter and you will pray for them all and walk off. I wouldn’t tell your friend because all it will be do suck you into their conflict and her parents shouldn’t be using you in this way. The best way to stop gossip is to walk away from it.

Call your friend up and ask her how she is doing. Obviously, she’s recently moved out on her own, so ask her if she is okay and if there is anything you can do to help her.

Yesterday I sent her a text that said hey sorry for the late response but I think you will be a wonderful mother. Is there anything I can help you with? And she didn’t respond now I probably creeped her out and she probably thinks that Im some sort of creeper/stalker.
