How should we handle a non-Catholic receiving the Eucharist?

hi, my question concerns about my non-catholic boyfriend (former catholic) who comes with me to church who receives the eucharist during communion. i dont know what or how to tell him that he cant take it coz im afraid that he’ll feel rejected and then never to come to church again. in their faith they receive communion too but they dnt believe that its the real body and blood of Christ instead a symbol of His body and blood. what and how should i tell him without offending him?thank you
