How should we tithe?

Hello,

I’ve heard that if you want to tithe, that means 10% of your gross income gets donated. Does the Church mean that we should take the total gross income for the year, divide by 12, and that should be our monthly contribution to our parish?

Do other donations count toward tithing if you donate either services or non-cash goods to charitable causes?

Can you tell me some specific things to do if we really want to tithe the way the Church asks us to?
