I have a setting on my phone that is supposed to give me a Bible verse each day. For some reason, it has not done so. I was thinking to myself how much access we have to the Bible in this day and age, so much so, that I got upset that I wasn’t given a random Bible verse. If you go to Daily Mass, you are being exposed to the Word everyday (in both writing and Sacrament), you have smartphones, computers, and tablets you can read the Bible on, and you have quite the variety to choose from. On any given day, I read from at least three different versions of the Good book, but, I still prefer to read it in book form. The word of God is more available than ever, and that warms my heart (I wanted to say something positive, for once). God bless y’all!

True but the problem we have now is a glut of information. I know many Catholics who read the Protestant bibles as they do not know the difference. To be fair, it is the Catholic bookshop here (Veritas) that are selling them and confusing people.

Do you inform them?

Evangelical and Pentecostal preachers, when they are about to read the text for their sermon, will say something like, "Open your Bibles and turn to . . . " I remember the first time that I heard a preacher say, “Open your device . . .”, and it wasn’t that long ago. And the preacher was one of my cousins! 😮 😃

Oh my goodness. I was actually at a church, a Catholic church the other day, that actually has Bibles in it, so go figure (I know, shocking), that right when you go in the sanctuary, there is a sign saying turn off your cell phone, not put it on silent, not put it on vibrate, but turn it off. It doesn’t say the same thing about tablets, oddly but then again that sign has been there for as long as I can remember knowing said church. I know a priest, who has since passed, (may his memory be eternal) who was the pastor of a small Eastern Catholic parish, and he would encourage people to bring their Bibles to church. However, since almost all his Divine liturgies were recorded, he couldn’t really tell you not to bring devices, otherwise no one could record them, he would stream them on Facebook. I don’t have a Facebook, but I liked being able to go back and watch them. I would have preferred he put them on YouTube, but whatever. I have mixed feelings about using technology for stuff like that, on the one hand you, having prayers readily available that I might not remember otherwise is useful, on the other hand, some people just can’t stop texting.

No. For two reasons, they are after spending good bit of money to buy these and at the end of the day they are reading the Bible (if even it’s a little smaller).
