Would you believe it, but after I posted that thread asking what is scientology my sister would come home from Nevada showing some interest and defending this group. Could someone please give me some good arguments against them? Thanks!

It shouldn’t take more than a few minutes on Google. Please brace yourself before you start.

One way to argue with a scientologist – or at least to open his or her mind a little bit – is to recommend Sex and Rockets, which describes L. Ron Hubbard’s early experiments – performed in association with Jack Parsons – in producing a Whore of Babylon Love-child. Essentially, Hubbard was an occultist, a black magician, if you will. Scientology’s sole purpose is the creation of an UeberMensch who possesses all the powers of deity.

Scientist, poet, and self-proclaimed Antichrist, Jack Parsons was a bizarre genius whose life reads like an implausible yet irresistible science fiction novel. Sex and Rockets looks at his short life and dual career as cofounder of Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) and leader of the Agape Lodge of Aleister Crowley’s Ordo Templi Orientis (OTO). Author John Carter scours primary documents and interviews surviving friends and contemporaries to deliver an intriguing portrait of a dreamy, driven man equally interested in rocketry and magick. From his early childhood and deep attachment to his mother (who killed herself hours after he died) through his nonacademic research and brilliant innovations in solid fuels to his mysterious 1952 demise in a garage-laboratory explosion at the age of 37, the reader gets the impression of a man whose obsession with explosives and propellants was nearly single-minded. Yet this same man found spiritual fulfillment through Crowley’s Law of Thelema, conducted magickal operations with L. Ron Hubbard, and signed an oath asserting himself to be the Antichrist–clearly Parsons wasn’t a boring guy in a white coat. Carter pulls off the difficult task of integrating Parsons’s disparate drives into one compelling story; though there are some rough spots and awkward transitions, one gets the sense that this illuminates the man’s life better than a smooth, flawless work would. Robert Anton Wilson’s introduction is smart and funny as always, initiating the uninformed into the basics of Crowleyanity while placing Parsons in the context of his times. While it might not be possible to read universal themes into Parsons’s life, Sex and Rockets is an excellent study of a passionate life fully lived. –Rob Lightner

If you are going to argue with one make sure your lawyer is present at all times. I am not kidding. They don’t like debate. Not even just academically. Not a nice group at all.

I read somewhere once, that L. Ron Hubbard met Crowley and told him that he and Parsons were practicing sex magic to breed the “Whore of Babylon Love-child.” Even Crowley thought L. Ron was a nutcase.

L. Ron Hubbard started his religion as a joke because he had made a bet with a friend that he could found a religion and get people to follow it. When he found out how much money he could make with $cientology, he quit his career as a science fiction writer.

The Operation Clambake site should help you out pretty well.

Thanks for the link, there are excellent resourses available at this website for anyone interested in refuting the Co$. 👍

Operation Clambake has the details of how Parsons and Crowley attempted to breed the Antichrist through sex magic:

Aleister Crowley professed ‘the great idea of magicians of all times’ was to bring into being an Anti-Christ, a ‘living being in form resembling man, and possessing those qualities of man which distinguish him from beasts, namely intellect and power of speech, but neither begotten in the manner of human generation, nor inhabited by a human soul’. To find a mother for this new Messiah, Parsons envisaged invoking an elemental spirit of the ‘whore of Babylon’ …

don’t debate with them, just start a really vicious fight. once they get injured enough to need modern medicine it is a really simple argument from there. (i’m just kidding by the way)

(we are talking about christian scientology right??)

The Church of Scientology is not the same as Christian Science. Scientologists will fork out huge sums of money to progress in their lessons and will horde the secrets of it’s teachings. Everything about them is to make the members pay more and more money.
