Yes, you can do that! I expect more precision from the Church than I do from Secular Authorities. I didn’t say it was 100% incorrect, just not the BEST thing to say, plus, when the bailiff says that he isn’t trying to make a “clever” reference to the Resurrection.

I just happened to be looking at OCP’s Today’s Missal in reference to something else; sure enough, the current version still has a note next to the Alleluia saying “omit if not sung”. 🤷‍♂️
Just last week I attended a different church. There was no singing and we all stood after the second reading, quite promptly and without direction from the commentator. The priest processed to the lectern and announced the Gospel, and then I noticed that the Alleluia had been omitted, which I found quite noticeable as I had earlier declared in this thread that I’ve never seen this in Australia! 😊 Perhaps it’s happened at other Masses I’ve attended, but I just hadn’t noticed until the correct sequence, with option to omit the Alleluia, had been bought to mind by this discussion.

About 1-2 years ago, I was cantoring a funeral. Father went to the Ambo to read the Gospel and everyone was still sitting down! (A lot of these people were not Catholic and a few were RC.) So I had to announce to everyone to stand for the Gospel and later the Cherubic Hymn. It made me very uncomfortable but people can’t sit for the Gospel or Cherubicon (unless they’re elderly which is totally understandable - and most of these people weren’t elderly).

Honestly, it still irks me thinking about it.
