Not sure where this post should go… but it would be a project in evangelization.

I would love it if my parish could build a small stone grotto with a statue of Our Lady, maybe a crucifix or icon, etc.

I have jokingly brought this up casually to the pastor and some others. But I have not made any serious proposal. \

Our parish just build a new church 3 years ago and there is still a serious debt on it–so, I doubt that parish funds could be used. So I was thinking grass roots…

So, maybe I am just completely naive, but how hard would it be for a group of people to build a grotto? Has anyone done this before?

Could one find nice stones, cement, and put up something halfway decent?..

I found some statuary on Leaflet Missal.

Here are the statues (which seem reasonably priced): leafletonline.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=305_323_327&sort=20a&page=1

And shrines for the Statues:

Perhaps you should look into creating a Mary Garden on the property and then adding a small shrine within it. And a small bench to sit at a pray. You may be able to get a nursery to donate the flowers for the garden. It doesn’t have to be anything big. The church I used to attend in Florida had a 10 foot square filled with flowers and 2 benches, with a small Marian shrine. I loved it.

I hope that helps!
