I feel as though my top 2 skills are graphic design and Catholic theology/history. I studied both art and religion in school. I don’t have a PhD or anything, yet I still feel as though I know a lot about the Catholic faith.

Anyways are there any ideas on how I could combine these two interests of mine? Attached is a sample info poster I made. I both designed it and wrote the content.

Thanks for any advice!

I like your info poster design wise but cannot read it even expanded.

It does seem a good way to combine your interests.

Prayer cards may be another option.

If you do want to read it, I think you can click it and it comes full size. Originally it’s supposed to be poster size. I didn’t post it to be read but just as an example.

I like the Holy Card idea. Holy cards in a more modern format are selling well on Etsy.
You might be able to sell some as patron saint gifts for Confirmandi.

Another thought:
Helping local parishes optimize their websites with good content and illustration/artwork
Most are really bad Really bad.

Are you using copyright free art in your design? You need to be careful about what you use or get permission, even to use as a sample.

How about pursuing iconography? There is a need for good modern writers of icons.

Definitely volunteer to help out your parish with their website and weekly bulletins. Show them some examples of your work and I’m sure they’d be thrilled to have you. Perhaps some other local parishes in your diocese could use some help with their websites, too. I don’t think I’ve seen a Catholic parish website yet that wasn’t pretty bad.

The subject of study will not be religious but it’s a discipline in itself.
To learn about Christian art you can reproduce icons and Christian decorative symbols so you can decorate your message and make it easily recognizable as a Christian poster from afar.
Don’t skip hand drawing because what you need in the beginning is a sense of proportions.
Learn the software for graphic design - the one called Gimp is free and is similar to Photoshop. The difference is in details that as a beginner you won’t even notice. You can find tutorials on Youtube on how to do it.
Work regularly posters, cards, drawings so you can develop your creativity and sense of style and proportion.
You have to figure out if you want to create modern Christian design or classical one. Or you can mix them up and be creative. But to figure it out what you like you should google Christian art and decoration to find the forms that inspire you the most.
Now you probably concentrate more on the text to put in, but for design you have to study form and color and forget the text itself when you study form and layout.
The meaning you study in parallel.

I teach in a Catholic school. There is a complete lack of educational materials for a reasonable price. It is unbelievably difficult to find crucifix stickers, posters of the Mysteries of the Rosary, and other Catholic religious education materials for school-aged students. I have made a bunch of my own, but that takes a serious amount of time. I have looked for these materials for years. I wonder if you could contact the Catholic Company or other suppliers of religious materials and see if they would work with you. There are plenty of generic Christian types of things, but I want authentic Catholic informational posters, stickers, bookmarks, etc. For younger students, more pictures with less text is helpful.
