Fortunately I have been blessed with the opportunity to visit blessed sacrament daily in adoration as I live near a perpetual adoration chapel.I am interested in knowing how to do adoration more effectively.I daily spent about 40 mins in the chapel. But I find it very hard to concentrate and pray in the chapel.I always get distracted easily.Ideas on how to do it effectively and in a serious prayerful mood will be most welcome.I think it is mostly a waste of time If I allow my mind to wander aimlessly and not able to spent time praying

Yeah, there are so many books about adoration, of this I am really satisfied with the one small book written by ‘Linda Schubert’ in the name and title as ’ Miracle Hour’ which really consist some 12 ways of adoration, each 5 minutes, thus over by one hour in all. Each segment of this inclue praises, sing to the Lord. spiritual warfare, surrender, release of Holy Spirit, repentance, forgiveness, scripture reflections, wait of the Lord to speak, intercessions, petitions and last the thanksgiving. The book is originally released by the Society of St. Pauls or Pauline u may know well-josephraj

Follow the sequence of the Holy Mass, it is a perfect example of a prayer as a whole.
  1. Confessing our faults…" I Confess to Almighty God and to you my brother & sisters…"
    In your own words ask God mercy and forgiveness with a contrite heart;
  2. Glorification, adoring,blessing and thanksgiving. " Glory to God in the Highest & peace to his people of goodwill…" Which is our primary goal when we pray.;
  3. Reading of a short bible passage and reflecting on it.
  4. Silence of the heart (meditation) just listen and absorb his presence (communion)
  5. If you still have time, compose your own short prayer as a journal of your love to Him.
I hope this would help but each one of us has their own gift. This is the most exciting part of praying…finding that gift. There is no right nor wrong when we pray because God will be guiding us along the way if you are sincere in your intention.

Use a prayer book of your choice and make the prayers your own, from your heart. Commitment is what counts, not feelings.

I love this way of Adoration. Thank you for posting this. Someone said to just sit there for a while and let Our Lord gaze lovingly upon us. How Divine.

I agree 🙂 When I am able to go, or should I say, when it’s offered, I am never sure what to be doing. I pray a little and reflect on things, and even read a little from my missal, but a whole hour is difficult to fill with things to keep me focused sometimes. Your suggested outline makes a lot of sense to me. Thank for the wonderful idea!

Search for books on contemplitative prayer.

try
any of the works of St. Theresa of Avila

Practice of the Presence of God by Br. Lawrence

The Story of a Soul by St. THerese of Lisieux

School for Prayer (also known as Beginning to Pray) by Anthony Bloom

Some parts of Introduction to the Devout Life are highly suitable.

Learning how to be still and accept the presence of God is difficult. For me I cannot make it happen, I have ADHD and concentration and Silence are very difficult.
But when He sees fit He reaches into my Heart and grabs me. I feel a sensation pulling me into some mental or physical place If I obey I find myself deeply in His presence.
Sometimes I am drawn to kneel or lie prostrate before Him, in the Blessed Sacrament, or just before His image on the Cross.
At these times there is no attempt on my part to exercise my mind, to meditate, so “say prayers”. I am just in His presence. I am being given a gift that requires me to do no more than shut up, do what I’m told and behold His beautiful presence.

The rest of the time you have to be in front of the blessed sacrament is time for you to give to the Lord. To meditate and to contemplate. Some people like to just sit and gaze at him with an empty mind. others find this very difficult. The most of those who have written about contemplative prayer recommend that you develop a pattern of “Customary prayer” which includes time for silence and meditation, but to be open to the call of the Holy Spirit and to let him lead you into the type of experience I describe above should He see fit.

Forms of customary prayer that are usefull would include all forms of prayer which are meditative or contemplitative.
Meditations:
The Rosary (with the focus on meditating on the mysteries… no just saying the oral prayers)
The Stations of the Cross
The Chaplet of divine Mercy

Meditative / contemplative prayer
Lectio Divina

Also of great benefit:
The Divine Office: with a focus on the silent times after each psalm and canticle. (I would start with this, and then proceed to other forms of prayer).
After the Hour most appropriate to the time, you may also choose to pray the Office of Readings.

You might also use one of the readings from the Office as the theme for your Lectio Divina.

There’s a book called “Holy Hour of Reparation” which contains all the prayers one needs to make a Holy Hour of Reparation. It’s only about $10 and it’s small enough you can fit in your purse. That will be an hour very well spent.

Someone once said that when you have a close friend, you just like to be in their company, and not necessarily doing something. That is because they both like one another and words are not really necessary.

Also friends like to know more about each other and find each other interesting.

May God bless and keep you. May God’s face shine on you. May God be kind to you and give you peace.
