Hi all,

I am new to Catholicism so still learning rapidly every day! 🙂 One of those learnings is the Rosary, I have memorised every prayer and try to pray it when I can: walking, driving, in my prayer space, etc.

I have heard somewhere that you can bring up your intentions to Our Blessed Mother while praying the Rosary, but I cannot seem to find an answer about how we do that?
  • Do you say then prior to the Our Father on the decade?
  • Do you say them all at the begining of the Rosary?
  • Are Intentions a “thing” that Catholics present to their Mother?
Any advise on this topic would be very helpful 🙂

There is no required way to do this. 😃 I suggest you just make the Sign of the Cross and then tell God what intention(s) you wish to pray for.

And yes. 🙂 We can and do ask Mother Mary to pray for us, interceding with her Son for what we need. 📿

That is massively helpful, thank you! 😃

It would make things a little easier asking for our intentions at the start, then you can just enjoy the Rosary and not have to worry about when to ask or if you have already asked it, etc. 🙂

I can certainly image that being very memorable to you 🙂

Thank you for this advise, I do have another question for you, as you have mentioned both God and Our Blessed Mother.

@Zaccheus too you also, perhaps

Are the intentions always prayed to God or to Mother Mary for our intercession to God? Sorry for all the questions?!

Both ways are fine. 🙂 It’s God who answers our prayers but the Blessed Virgin will pray for us if we ask.
Personally I will offer my intentions directly to the Father and then ask Mother Mary to pray for me.

ETA And what Cajun Joy said. 🙂

There is no set way…you can say all your intentions prior to starting the Rosary, you can have an intention(s) for each decade or as mentioned you can have an intention for each prayer if desired.

We pray to Mary understanding that the word ‘pray’ means ‘to ask’. In ancient times the queen usually was the mother of the king and the subjects would go to her first with their requests. Here is a detailed explanation…

Understanding Mary as queen mother sheds light on her important intercessory role in the Christian life. Just like the queen mother of the Davidic kingdom, Mary serves as advocate for the people in the Kingdom of God today. Thus, we should approach our queen mother with confidence, knowing that she carries our petitions to her royal son and that he responds to her as Solomon did to Bathsheba: “I will never refuse you.”
So, yes, we direct our intentions to Mary.
