I know tha evangelization means to spead the Word of God and save souls. But in this day and age, it seems impossible for someone like me to convert someone. I’m in this mindset that conversion is the only valid means of spreading the Word. So are there other methods of evangelization? Or am I constrained to putting pearls before swine?

Read “Saints in the World” by Jesus Urteaga, its a short book and by the end you will have a zeal for souls and kow just what you must do to bring about the conversion of the world.

Also any of the writings of St. Josemaria will help.

It is the Holy Spirit’s place to “convert” souls, not us, we are in sales. The best way to evangelize is to live your life according to the Gospel. Catholic Answers has a booklet “12 Painless Ways to Evangelize” It has very good tips on small ways we can spread the Gospel, every day.

Don’t worry about the outcome. You may unwittingly be planting seeds that somebody else waters.

The evangelization method that Cursillo recommends follows three steps. (1) make a friend, (2) be a friend, (3) bring a friend to Christ.
First, build your personal relationships. It is only after your friend comes to trust and value the relationship you share that he/she will be ready to listen to why you value your own faith so much. Actions speak louder than words. Your friends observe how you live out your faith. Finally, the time will come when you can invite your friend to Mass or another liturgical service. Place your friend in prayer. Live your faith. Let the Holy Spirit direct your path, giving you the words you need at the right time.

May God’s Peace, Love, Mercy, Graces & Blessings be with you and to all!

It is only Our Good God Who can change people’s heart. We plant that seed by sharing our Catholic faith, by loving God and our neighbors, and by the way we live our ordinary Catholic Christian life on a daily basis. But it is God’s grace that waters that seed and makes it grow. Of course the disposition of the heart/soul - the so called “soil” is important in order for the seed to take root, for it is hard to grow a seed on a rocky ground.

St. John Vianney had that same problem in his days when he was assigned to this small town of Ars. He wasn’t this eloquent, intelligent priest, he barely made it to priesthood. People hardly went to Church and was interested more on living a sinful life than living a life of faith & of love of God. So, what he did, he prayed & fasted for them. Later on people started flocking the Church & wanted to attend holy Mass & also go to Confession that he stayed in the confessional for 15-16 hrs. daily.

So, I have learned to always pray for people and let God do the rest. For some people, in the hardness of their heart won’t listen to any talk about God, His Goodness or His Love. It is like a window covered with dust, mud, etc. that obliterates the rays of the sun & prevents the sun from giving light to the room. So the room always stays dark. The more mud there is, the more darker the room is. So goes the soul that is mired in sin, without realizing, we obstruct God’s grace in our lives by habitually living a sinful life.

Never give up in praying for them even though you may think it is not working just because you do not see a change in their lives. You may never see the results in your lifetime but you will be surprised when you get to heaven the GREAT impact on that person’s soul & salvation with the simple heartfelt prayers that you have offered to Our Good God.

Praying for you and for all!

Agree…St Josemaria and Opus Dei’s approach (including Urteagea) to evangelization is really “apostolate”. Be a friend first. Your interior life should be so strong and intense and full that it overflows in your life…in your family, neighborhood, work. Quietly, one on one, your cheerful spirit of service and quiet acts of charity, and serenity will “catch” people’s attention, opening up over your lifetime hundreds of “small opportunities” to share your faith with other Catholics, perhaps lukewarm ones, other Christians, and atheists.

Pursue holiness intensely with a sense of spiritual childhood…and your innocence, love, naturalness (all which are God acting in you) will allow a powerful form of “evangelization” to occur, quite slowly, but quite non-confrontationally. You need to know our Faith and Doctrine soundly, cold…but what catches fish occurs one on one at a very personal level.

“The question confronting the Church today is not any longer whether the man in the street can grasp a religious message, but how to employ the communications media so as to let him have the full impact of the Gospel message.” - Pope John Paul II

Perhaps you would enjoy starting a blog or facebook campaign to ‘reach out’?
  1. I think the best way to evangelize is to live a true Christian life and smile! Be happy!
Show the world that there is much more peace in being Christian than what the world offers.
“It is not fitting , when one is in God’s service, to have a gloomy face or a chilling look.”- St. Francis of Assisi
  2. Pray, Pray, Pray!
  3. Be there for people, patiently waiting for them to ask you questions, and be kind with all

so Jesus wasted his time preaching to those who did not listen to his message? the apostles wasted their time preaching to those who did not convert? missionaries throughout the ages have wasted their time even though only a few of those they reached had lasting conversions? you do understand evangelists and missionaries convert no one, it is the Holy Spirit who does that.

read the parable of the Sower and Christ’s explanation of how evangelization is done
