I have just recently come into the Catholic church, and I find myself in a struggling life at home, with little to no support from family and spouse in my new faith, and even among my friends!

I am always afraid of being overwhelming to others…during RCIA I was always worried about this, burdening others. My sponser was sweet, but doesn’t offer this support that I am looking for. Now I find myself really wishing for someone solid I could talk with and receive advice from, particularly in a moral and Catholic basis. The pastor at my parish seems to be very busy, and I sense he is not the right person to approach for being an advisor/director. I have a few solid Catholic friends, but they live several states away and are consumed in their own lives.

I guess I wonder how I can find people that can offer advice, that are local to me, and can actually get to know me and my situation so I can get solid advice. I feel really overwhelmed and so many days I feel completely lost. I pray frequently, but I really get the impression having some good local friends/support would fill a void for me. I am trying to get involved in my parish…that is a start, but looking to see what else I can do.

Thanks!

Hi,

Simply choose a regular confessor. This is what I have done. You don’t need to spend hours talking. He will get to know you after a while and can serve as an objective monitor for your spiritual life.
