I have a friend who emailed me tonight and told me that her teenage daughter has a drug addiction problem to “huffing u know the stuff that you dust your pc off with to clean it!!!”

I didn’t know you could get addicted to that, but that is what she said her daughter is addicted to and got into a car accident as a result of it and was put into a rehab place for it.

My question is this. This girl is not rehabilitated and my friend can’t afford to put her dd back into rehab. Does anyone know of places that she could put her daughter in that is free that would help her daughter become clean? I guess the problem is also that it seems that the dd doesn’t see that she has a problem or that she wants help.

My friend is just praying and leaving it all in God’s hand, but in the meantime her dd is allowed to drive and could hurt herself again or worse kill an innocent person on the road while under the influence of this drug.

What advise can I give this friend? Prayer is great and she needs to pray for her dd, but it seems that action is needed as well here.

Catholic charities may be able to assist as it does offer counseling sessions for a variety of issues. If there is one where she lives, have her look into it. Some catholic hospitals have programs as well. (I use to work in the billing dept. where I live & the facility offered a variety of programs via their clinics for those who had little or no insurance coverage).

Have her request an uncompensated care form at the hospital business office. She will have to provide her W-2 from last year and some other information. Based upon her income level, she’d be responsible for 1/2, 1/4, or none of the bills for an entire yr. All hospitals have this as funds are set aside for the population that is uninsured.

Hope this helps. God bless you for helping your friend.🙂

If the daughter accepts that her huffing caused the crash, then there is some hope.

If she refuses to accept that, then I’m afraid there is not much to be done. As long as the daughter thinks that huffing is no problem, she won’t think she needs help.

In either case, the Mom needs help and counseling for herself.

Why can’t Mom take away the car keys? If the kid lives at home, Mom can make rules, and “No driving” should be one of them.

Praying for them,

Ruthie

This mom was blessed to get a wake up call. Next time, her daughter could be dead and could take people with her. It will not take a car accident to kill her daughter, the huffing can do it right there in her home.

If she has health insurance, mom needs to be on the phone tomorrow finding out what treatment is available. If not, kids under 18 qualify for health insurance through the state in every state, your friend needs to find that.

Catholic Charities, community counseling services, wear out the phones until she finds a way to get this girl in treatment.

Nothing else, sell that car and use it to pay for the rehab.

This kid has no business driving or being left alone until she stops huffing.

I saw some good suggestions already. I have nothing more to add but did want to say I will pray for this person. How sad for all involved.

I will mention all this to this mom, but she is not a very smart person and I don’t mean that to be mean. There are some people who just are not smart and hand around people who are not either and this woman is one of them. I met her because she was dating my brother-in-law and she was still married. She allowed my BIL to live at her house and her kids to see this while she kicked her husband out, mind you he was an active alcoholic, but my BIL is an alcoholic as well. She finally saw through him too and saw that he was using her too. My BIL ruined her credit and used a lot of her money, but I tried warning her, but like I said when I met her she was not too smart. I felt bad for her kids. With all that said, I do believe she loves her kids, but she has no control over them. She lost them and their respect the day she had my BIL move into her house. They hated him. They told her that and she didn’t care. So they resented her for that. Now she lost her daughter. Her son is also very disrespectful to her and yells at her.

Well, please do pray for this family, but I will try again and tell her to take the car keys away from her dd, but if I remember, her dd got into the accident using a friends car. So you know teens, if they want to drive, they will find a way. She really needs to get her into rehab again, but she keeps telling me that she can’t afford it and her dh is not working and she is the only one working. I feel bad for her in a way. She has a household full of people with addictions and she is depressed. She needs help for herself.

She won’t go to Catholic Charities for she is not Catholic and we are a “false” religion, go figure. She is Baptist and her sister has told her many times that she will rot in hell for committing adultery. I have never judged her like that. Oh well, I just show Christian Charity to her to show her that we Catholics are not bad.

Thanks for your advice so far. 👍
