I recently have been very involved in my religion.
I feelsometimes my husband does not take me serioulsy…
(before we got married and i was a party girl and was pretty wild…ok really wild 😉 , but i have changed…and i feel it is never to late to realize or have Jesus in your life)

After my daughter, i decided that i was not into partying alot or going out…and i told him i want to stay home on Saturdays because i would like to go to church in the Mornings…

He has no problem driving me and my daughter to church(he does not come in), but he will not take any intrest in religion with me,.

I would also like another child and he wants nothing to do with that idea AT ALL!!! I read that when you are married it is important to have children…and i do not want to be on birth control anymore because i read it is against my beliefs.
How can i get him to see my side of things and how can i get him involved with me in the church and to get him to realize that i do not want to take birth control anymore because of my beliefs???

Congrats on wanting and taking steps to grow closer to our Lord Jesus! 😃

As far as NFP (natural family planning) just do a search and you’ll get lots of threads with great information on this board. If you get the resources they can help you explain it to your husband – but you need to be informed first.

As far as getting him involved, there are lots of factors we don’t know (is he Christian? what denomination? what is your marriage like? why does he want nothing to do with church? etc.). The most basic advice I can give is two-fold:
  1. Be an example – live the way the Church teaches and show your husband the light of God. (it is also imperative for your daughter to see this.)
  2. PRAY for your husband, your marriage, your family.
God bless. 🙂

Pray, set a good example, St. Francis says “speak the Gospel, use words if necessary”. I had to repeat that over and over to myself early on in my marriage. Read a good book on St. Monica. My story is similar to yours. S L O W L Y my husband came around. I just lived the way I knew was right without being judgemental or lecturing to him. Eventually (and after going to a wonderful Catholic counselor) he came around.

Our parish priest, Fr. John Ricardo, is an amazing man and has tons of podcasts. He helped us so much. The website to find his podcasts are at www.olgcparish.net.

God bless you in yoru journey. Stay strong. I will pray for you.

You can be such a walking advertisment for the JOY of Christ that he ends up telling the guys at work “you should get your wife to become Catholic. It is AMAZING.”

Try going to Mass some Saturday evening, then go out for a nice romantic dinner/dancing after.

When you stay in on Sat evening, make a special dinner, put on some music and open a bottle of wine.

When you come home from Mass, and he sees how happy you are, he will wonder what it is all about.

Christ told us “let your light so shine before men that they will see your good works and glorify My Father who is in Heaven”. So, find something you can do, get involved - start shining that light!!

If you started out in the world of parties then you will have a hard time with getting your husband to even contemplate entering a church. You can lead a horse to water but you can’t make it drink. If I were you I would start out by reading “The Imitation of Christ” by Thomas a Kempis. I started out by reading “An Introduction To The Devout Life” by St. Frances De Sales, Bishop, Confessor and Doctor of the Church. Either one of these two books will help you to learn the deeper roots of your Catholic faith. Perhaps over time your husband can evolve with you if you feed him little tid bits of what you read and how it makes you feel or think. You may be the instrument of God in your family. Try the books. As far as leading a horse to the water, I used to own a horse and believe me it is easier to get them to drink than to lead someone into the Church. Please let me know how this works.

be an example in your home life , set aside a few minutes a day for prayer when your hubby is there, he’ll soon get used to see you meditating and one day you’ll see a change happening, like a mustard seed growing in the rich soil of your home life. GOD IS WITH YOU.

My husband found religion when he was almost killed in an accident. I would not recommend that though 😛

I have always been taught that you evangelize your faith by how you live your faith. If you by living your faith in a manner that it will show him how great your faith is to you, your marriage and your family, hopefully he will follow. Also praying for him never hurts 🙂

Sometimes I think the happiest Catholic marriages are between two devout Catholics at the outset, and the next happiest Catholic marriages are between two non-practicing Catholics.

Within the latter marriages, when one party “discovers” their religion for the first time, it seldom seems to be taken well by the other. Although I pray it is not the case, you may be in for a long haul. Your husband will help you get into heaven…either through his journey with you, or through your martyrdom. I really wish the latter scenario was rare.
