Does anyone know how to have faith when you have very bad circumstances and God seems to not care not be there and to be distant?
I should mention that I am catholic baptised but not practising so I struggle with whether I believe in God or not in the best of circumstances, but now I am having a deep depression not responsive to treatment and some other bad circumstances and I feel that I am just suffering it by myself and when I pray to god it seems futile -I can neither “sense” God nor do I receive any help so it seems there is no God.
I’ve heard people suggest praying for Gods will not your own but I find that hard on two levels…
First being that I want my own will
Second being that I don’t think God has much clear purpose for my life or any “positive outcomes”.

I don’t know if depression changes to the brain can cloud your perception regarding whether there is a God,or rather whether it’s that God is a man made brain concept.

Thanks

Rozellelily,

God is with you whether you perceive him or not. And so is your guardian angel 🙂
(I think I have depression too. I was recently in a hospital and the doctor mentioned adjustment disorder but couldn’t diagnose it and needed the psychiatrist, who wasn’t in at the time. I haven’t seen him yet because I’m going through so much situational difficulties at the moment)
In the hospital, I was reading the daily missal and laughing because of how the scriptures kept relating to my life that it comforted me in my sorrows. Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.

Depression is okay. It allows us to draw really, really, really close to Jesus Christ in a way that others can’t. He loves us depressed people very much we are given much grace to deal with it if only we humble ourselves in our afflictions 🙂

It is true depression is a condition of the flesh, but do not forget the evil one has the power to suggest intrusive thoughts to you----so both can be blended. For example, if you’re depressed and seeking to go to church and then you are overwelmed with thoughts to kill yourself with sudden feelings to do so, do not believe it! It’s obviously a temptation, so do not listen to the negative thoughts and feelings that have anything to do with killing yourself and stuff like that. If your conscious is bring pricked and it seems to be leading you back to God in a very good way in accordance with Catholic teaching, it’s most likely your guardian angel pricking your conscious (Rule 1 Ignatian Spirituality concerning people in a state of sin in which the good spirit bites their conscious to lead them back to God). It means God loves you and wants to draw you back to him and is being desolate probably because he can’t suffer to see pride in your soul. A good way to tackle it is the litany of humility, perfect contrite prayer and seeking the sacrament of penance.

Hope this helps 🙂
Be at peace.

Remember Thomas, the Apostle. He was with Jesus for the years of His Ministry. Saw all the Miracles, saw all the sermons and preaching. Witnessed the perfect human will of Jesus.
Yet Thomas had to put his hands in the wounds of Christ resurrected before he believed.
And Christ fully understood and allowed this.

You are in my prayers

Nothing OUTSIDE can separate us from the Love of
God, it is what is going on INSIDE that is your problem!!
Our sins can separate us from God, hide his face and
ears when we pray and cry out to him(Is. 59:2) here God
is speaking to His People, remember.
There is NO REST for the wicked(v.11) i.e. we can sin,
but we won’t be content w/ our fallen state(1 Jn. 3:4-9),
we enter into that rest by Faith, trusting that God will
forgive us our sins and give us a clean slate if we
repent(Heb. 4:3;Is. 30:15)
Yet there is HOPE for the errant believer b/c God waits
for us to return to Him, just like the Father of the Prodigal
Son, and He and His angels in heaven will rejoice every
time
a sinful believer repents and comes “Home” to Him.
We cannot fathom God’s Love, it is infinite(Eph. 3:18-19)
and Eternal(1 Cor. 13:8) and it is perfect(v.12)
Anyway, I have rambled enough.
GBY, my fellow believer!!

God cares & is always there!

What your doing is what we always do (as humans). But luckily we have a God who is amazing.

When I’m in your position I always remember what Jesus said before being arrested, "Father, My Father… With you all things are possible!" I say the same thing in my mind & then leave everything in the hands of our loving father.

Choice is now in your hands my friend…
