“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you” (The Gospel of St. Matthew 5:43-44)

When you beg God to pour down blessings on your enemies, it helps drain off bitterness and toxic anger.

Remembering them in mass at the sign of peace and forgiving them in your heart is something I’ve taken up in recent years .There is peace and healing ,and true concern for their soul .

From the link, this is exactly what my priest told me to remember:

“Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do.” (Luke 23:24)

Well, if anyone would know about this it would be Thomas Moore. I should start praying this after the Angelus. Thanks for the link

When I was a very serious Catholic Christian, the thought of anybody going to hell mortified me. I mean, look at what Jesus went through for humanity’s salvation. I couldn’t imagine how difficult it must have been to live on that cross for three hours knowing that those moments were the final dividing line between salvation and perdition for humanity from then on out.

I would think that if I were faced with such a situation that I would experience enormous turmoil and distress, greater than the physical pain and distress of dying on the cross, at knowing my enemies weren’t going to make it to heaven.

I could never understand how believers didn’t take Christ’s dying moments on the cross so seriously when it comes to their enemies or unbelievers.
