Classical Latin pronunciation:

Ae = “I” (as in “high”)
G = go
i = “ee” (as in need)

So: I-gee-dee-us.
Stress on the gee.

So the Giles would be? (I know this seems stupid)
GUY-less, GUY-leez, giles (as in beguiles) other?
Dominus vobiscum
(I seriously identify with this saint after just today discovering him by “accident”. Trying to get it right)

My French isn’t good but @OddBird is French if I recall correctly

There seems to be two acceptable English pronunciations of Giles; both rhyme with such English words as files, miles, and tiles. One begins with a “hard g” sound (g as in go); the other with a “soft g” sound (g as in giant). The pronunciation given in the Wikipedia article (dʒaɪlz) is the latter (g as in giant) pronunciation.

Thank you all. I have been a hermit type all my life. Love of animals too. When you see the old west stories with the prospector off in the desert with the donkey, that could be me. This man renouncing the world and wealth, and living in the wilderness, in a cave, with a hind as company is comforting to me. (Ordered prayer cards of him last night too)
Dominus vobiscum
