How to read icons

So, I am really drawn to Eastern Iconography, but I have absolutely no idea how to read them. I’d like to be able to understand the imagery. What resources can you recommend for learning to read icons?

I’d create an account at byzcath.org and ask there.

There will be at least a few who can point you in the right direction there.

As a practical matter, this is the kind of thing that wikipedia is likely to give a good background.
