Hello All,

Lately, I have been feeling extremely disconnected from the church. I rarely attend mass, and I have not made decisions that are respectful of my faith. I have recently wanted to turn my life around and reconnect to the church as I have not done before. I am not sure how. I want to become greatly connected to god, and I am willing to take as much time as I need to have him re-enter my life. Please let me know how to do this. I am 15 by the way.

Your feelings are normal for a teenager. Much is changing in your life.

If your parents are going to Mass, go with them.

Honestly, I’d encourage you to seek out a youth group. If you need the basics and feel lost, Lifeteen is a good start. If you know the basics and want to really argue and get into the meat of the faith then Dead Theologians Society is an excellent resource.

You might also find that there may be a Catholic “scouting” group you can join for some good fellowship. Trail Life USA for young men and American Heritage Girls for young women are great groups.

Go to confession. Make a good one and you will be walking on air.

🤨

Confession has nothing to do with our disposition afterward. Someone can feel great after a bad confession but terrible after a good one.

Especaly when one is struggling it is very important to avoid things that are about pure emotionalism.

One should seek confession as it is a sacramental that is good for our soul, not because we get the “feels” after. Chasing the feels is why so many people leave the church.

Also perhaps think about attending the Extraordinary Form of the Mass if there is one nearby. If one is not nearby maybe buy a simple Latin Mass guide and learn Latin.

Start with attending regularly and then see if there is a youth group or an appropriate volunteering opportunity.

Just get to confession, and start from there. Attend Mass on Sunday. Youth Mass and Ministry would be encouraged. Give your day and night to God. Pray grace before and after meals. St. Francis de Sales says it’s our job as Christians to turn to God a hundred times a day. Keep your heart pure, which is the throne room of the Eucharistic King. God wants you to be a holy student and son/daughter. What you’re needing to learn right now is how to take care of yourself; your room; your locker; the responsibilities a teen should be learning. Observe your parents in the care of the home. They work to earn money to pay their bills. You’ll be in the same position soon.

Pray the rosary, as well. Our Lady gives us the graces necessary for our state-in-life through the rosary. Pray the Chaplet of Divine Mercy. You’ll soon be seeing the needs of others instead of yourself. There are a number of teen saints: St. Dominic Savio; St. Maria Goretti, just to name two. Carlo Acutis was a computer geek who died of leukemia (if memory serves correctly). His causus is being taken to Rome.

But above all, be PURE.

Blessings,

Attend daily Mass, if you can. Watch daily Mass on tv or the internet, if you cannot.

Read my dear. Read the Psalms, read the Gospels … see and hear how much God loves you. He is Knocking at the Door. Get to know Him through His Word and reconnecting to His Church will follow naturally.

You should try reading books by the saints especially by the doctors of the church. They are really inspiring and help put a zeal and passion for Christ and His Church. Also since you have not been going to mass on Sunday you should go to confession before receiving the Eucharist. Missing the Sunday obligation and receiving Holy Communion in a state of mortal sin is grave matter and are harmful to the soul. You should read into this for a greater understanding. They have examinations of consciences online to help you prepare for confession if you are considering it.

I was just like you about three years ago, even the same age.

My desire grew by reading. Read St. Gemma’s diary or Father Schouppe’s books on Purgatory and Hell. St. Faustina’s diary was reallyinteresting too. Currently I’m thinking about picking up He and I by Gabrielle Bossis and The Sinner’s Guide.

If you want to take your faith seriously, act like the saints. Imitate them. Read their works and follow suit.

I also like the Latin mass. I recommend reading about it. A vast majority of the saints attended mass in Latin! It’s called the Mass of the Saints for a reason. If one is near you, I suggest you try going. Just know that you don’t have to know Latin, but there are often Latin to English translation missals in the back.
