How to remain close to Holy Ghost

I am hoping to improve this year on how I remain close to the Holy Ghost. I feel like I don’t spend as much time thinking about him once Pentecost is done. Are there any books or readings that might help with this ?
 
I am not sure, I would say, just pray

The following brief teaching from the Catechism helps us to see the importance of your question, for all of us!
1830 The moral life of Christians is sustained by the gifts of the Holy Spirit. These are permanent dispositions which make man docile in following the promptings of the Holy Spirit.
1831 The seven gifts of the Holy Spirit are wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety, and fear of the Lord. They belong in their fullness to Christ, Son of David.<Cf. Isa 11:1-2> They complete and perfect the virtues of those who receive them. They make the faithful docile in readily obeying divine inspirations.
Let your good spirit lead me on a level path.<PS 143:10>
For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God . . . If children, then heirs, heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ.<Rom 8:14, 17>

Notice these seven gifts - or as Isaiah named them, “spirits” -
wisdom
understanding
counsel
fortitude
knowledge
piety, and
fear of the Lord.

These gifts are given as “permanent dispositions” - they are made possible in us, at Baptism, but must be made present and active in us, in the “here and now” by graces called “actual graces” - which we ought to and need to pray for. These are given by the Spirit - and hence, as @(name removed by moderator) suggested above, we need to pray explicitly to the Spirit for the gifts. I would suggest:
  1. Learn about each of these gifts - what each of their names mean - and how, as the Catechism teaches, “They complete and perfect the virtues of those who receive them.” And then, yes,
  2. Pray for them.
The Lord wants us to grow in the spiritual life! He wants us to grow in these gifts, and the virtues given us in potency in Baptism. He wants us to be holy.
