For a while now, I’ve wanted to become more active with the Church I attend near my university. This coming week will be meetings and trainings for roles in the church, and I’d like to help, but I’m not sure what I can do. I know most (probably all) of the roles require being a baptized Catholic who has been confirmed and received First Communion, but I have not even begun RCIA yet. Am I being too hasty? Would it hurt to email the worship team director about the requirements of these roles? I’m leaning towards the Sacristan and Altar Minister roles in particular.

Maybe a little hasty. Talk to a priest and get a spiritual director. Get through the RCIA and become a member of the Faith and pray the Lord open the doors he has planned for you. Be patient and trust in the Lord.

I don’t know if this changes from dioces to diocese, but around here, you have to be confirmed to be sacristan and baptized with 1st communion to alter serve.

I would suggest you get baptized first before you pick up a ministry in the church like sacristan or altar boy. The parish would probably only want baptized Catholics fulfilling those roles anyway. In the meantime, you could donate some time doing other volunteer work in the parish like helping the poor or something.

My diocese has the same regulations.
