Hi,

I am a protestant, but am interested in learning some about the Catholic faith. I would like to spend some time talking with a priest about some of the specific beliefs of the RCC and was wondering if I need to call ahead and set up an appointment, or if priests usually have office hours for this kind of thing or what. I don’t want to interfere with their duties to their parish to answer questions which, at least for now, are of purely academic curiosity, but I am unsure of what I need to do to set something like this up.

Any recommendations?

It’s the same as getting an appointment with a lawyer or a dentist, or any other professional person. Call his secretary to set up a time, and let her know in general terms what you want to discuss. Priests have many demands on their time, so you may end up getting rescheduled a couple of times - don’t let that deter you. 🙂

I called the parish office and let them know I wanted to speak to the parish Priest and wanted to make an appointment. Father called me back. We touched briefly on what I wanted to discuss and he made the appointment and we ended up meeting weekly for 4 months! I didn’t come from a Christian background so we had much to talk about and it was time well spent. I wish you a happy and fruitful inquiry into Catholicism.
