Right now, all isnt well. And this is the time i pray hard and do my rosaries and go to mass. But when all is well and I do not have inner pain to ask to be healed, how do I stay close to my Lord besides prayer and mass. It feels as if the only time I am close to God is during a crisis. Because that is when I struggle in pain. But when all is well, i still pray and go to mass but my lord starts feeling distant. Is there something I am not doing or understanding well?

Perhaps when you are free of pain as you say, and are not having your own struggles, you can pray for others. Many people post prayers for other daily on this site in the Prayer intentions sub-forum. You may want to join us there.

You could also sign up for novenas and receive email reminders such as the ones on praymorenovenas.com.
Or get some Catholic reading materials and read up about the saints.

Any of these things will keep your mind turned toward God, not just when you need him. 🙂

Blessed, almost, Christmas to you. Liked your reflection on prayer and feeling close to God when you are suffering. What struck me about your reflection was experiencing the humanity of Christ…your oneness with him in his suffering. Jesus experienced all our suffering except of course sin. He took on our sins in the mystery of his life, death and resurrection, but he was fully human and fully divine. Jesus knew what it was like to be rejected, mocked, …he knew hunger and knew the struggles of daily work as a carpenter. And he is always with you, especially in your times of carrying the cross, he is right there with you. He is one with you. And maybe when you feel distant from him he just wants you to seek him more. He waits for you to pray a little more… God is with us and our feelings change all the time but God never changes in his love for you. @Christianbook

I do have books that Ibread, devotionals and saints. Yet I do not feel close to him. I just feel I am learning more about him. But I really like what you said about praying for others who are suffering. You know, in this busy world I get caught up in only what IAM going through. Maybe praying hard for others that suffer the same way I would pray for myself when I suffer whill help me fill that seperation I feel when all is well. Thank you. I love that Idea. Maybe dedicate novenas to certain people. I love that idea. Thank you so much

You’re welcome! 🙂
There are plenty of things that need prayers.
I was told years ago on CAF to be sure and pray on the prayer intention threads that has few if any replies. It is true that some have many replies and some get few.

I understand. The thing is I only feel him near when my cross heavy rather then when it is light, yet my communication with him stays the same. I think I enjoyed the previous answer, to think about others heavy crosses instead of my own. So I will do that. Thanks anyways. Merry almost Christmas to you too

Yea. Its just praying for general things such as our teachers, the sick, the poor etc… it is a good thing but it feels as if I am being lazy you know? Its better Idea and it feels alot better when you know exactly who to pray for and put your heart into it until whoever is in a better situation ya kno? I cant believe I couldnt think of something so obvious on my own hahaha. Im so grateful for your advice. Thanks <3

In addition to CRV’s idea for prayer, there are often lots of people we can offer one line prayers for that we may run across every day that we don’t even know. (Someone on line at the grocery store with a bunch of kids in tow, someone with an arm in a cast, older people that are having trouble walking, a parent speaking sharply to a child, or a spouse to their spouse) There are opportunities all around us if we are tuned in to them. And our prayers only take a few seconds to God.

^^ Also a great idea. I’ve gotten myself into that habit now and it is a very easy way to Pray, Pray, Pray!

I actually had this exact thought. Afterall, I’m not saying that the "sanctifyingly graceful " satisfied moments are to be taken for granted. Surely not.

However, I go through “away times” of God in my day. Though I have worked hard to configure my life in a way that is centered around stewardship of time, thought, money…and I am grateful indeed almost every waking and sleeping moment. I get dulled. Yes, sorrowed too. Joyed…etc…

I think for me, a big help is the gloriousness of this fellowship here, mixed with a fair amount of rosaries in front of the eucharistic sacrament…

Of course, the obvious clean eating choices, exercise helps… but I still admit I think God hides “for is not from us”… I cant say Ilike that… but it seems more true than I’d care to admit over my prodigal return
