I am a 15 year old teen and although I was raised atheist by secular parents, I have though for about a year or 2 now and have decided that I want to convert to the Catholic Church. I want to tell my parents I believe in the Catholic Church and that I want to be baptised and confirmed, but I really don’t know how to and I’m afraid they will not be happy with my decision since they have made some nasty remarks about the Church (things like that it’s old fashioned on topics like homosexuality and transgenderism).

I would like to hear about how you guys told your parents, if you’re also a teen convert.
And if you have any other advise, that’s welcome as well.
Pray for me. God bless you all.

I would start by maybe casually raising the topic of Catholicism without mentioning that you are wanting to convert. See what their response is.

If it’s positive I would discuss wanting to convert.

If it’s negative or you bring up wanting to convert and they say no, you’ll have to wait until you’re a legal adult. In the meantime, you can still find Catholic teaching online. If they’re very antagonistic I would leave it at that, but if they’re okay with it you might see about purchasing a rosary or some Catholic books. (If they won’t let you have a rosary you can still pray the rosary on your 10 fingers.)

I would make it clear that you do not expect them to convert and that you won’t be expecting them to go to Mass with you or anything of that sort. Also explain that you don’t plan to preach to them.

Go talk to your local parish priest. He will give you good advice, likely he has dealt with similiar situations

Often times I see people giving advice based on their own life example, which is a sample of one, and I think to myself, what worked for one does not work for another. But in this case, I think the advice Agatha gave rings very sound.
