How to thank God and His saints for their intercession?

As you may know, my spouse and I had tried to conceive for about 5-6 years.

I made a pilgrimage alone to the national basilica almost every day for a month between October and November, and it happened!

I remembr one day praying, “Lord, you know I only have a one-word prayer: Baby!” I even felt humbled (and goofy) enough to kiss the feet of a statue in a particular oratory (Our Lady of LaVang) after my petitions.

So…

How do I go about ‘thanking’ the Blessed Virgin and the host of saints from whom I had asked for their intercession over the years? Propogating devotion? Sharing testimony? I just don’t know where to begin.

Sharing your story is certainly a wonderful way to thank Our Lady by bringing others closer to her, and through her to Christ.

I seem to remember St Teresa of Avila (or was it the Little Flower?) once asked Our Lord how she could best thank Him for some favour. His answer was three words (positively verbose compared to your one-word prayer ) - He said ‘go to Mass!’

So perhaps ask your priest to offer a Mass in thanksgiving for you.

How about you offer prayers for all those other people who are still requesting the intercession of the saints who have interceded for you? That way you remain close in prayer to the souls who have assisted you.

I do not believe in “bribing” or “blackmailing” God or the saints for favors, and I am not superstitious, but we have a bit of a “game” going with St. Anthony. Sometimes when we had lost something important and asked St. Anthony’s intercession, in gratitude we would give some money to the poor (one of St. Anthony’s favorite causes). From there we began offering him some $ to the poor (usually comparable to a portion of the replacement cost or inconvenience, etc.) if he would help us find something of particular importance. Now we are “sure” he occassionally “hides” things from us just before we get a request from a particular charity… He’s sneaky, that one.
