How to Turn Down Non-Catholics

I can see both sides. I converted last Easter after being married to a Catholic spouse for 10 years. I know another guy who did the same thing. (Oh, and my husband is also a convert).

If you meet the right person, then they might convert before you get married. I know a couple in this situation. Their family is one of my Catholic “role model” families. They are just amazing!

It’s really about meeting the right person and seeing if you are compatible. If living a Catholic lifestyle is important to you, then find someone who respects that and won’t stand in the way of that. (After all, we do have obligations to raise the kids Catholic, etc).

As others have said, you can marry a Catholic and both of you be Catholic and have an awful marriage.

However, a person shouldn’t be made to feel like they are being forced to convert to be with you. They should want to do it for their own edification/salvation and to share their faith.

Honestly, you usually find the right person when you aren’t even looking. My life was complete chaos when I met my spouse and I wasn’t even looking for a guy, but there he was (in my town w/another friend for a Catholic wedding) and the rest is history…

Some people just aren’t good daters. Honestly, if you say you are looking for a relationship, not just a date, then some of those guys will cross you off their list.
